    Adoption and legal status
    The blue-over-red flag with the arms was restored in February 1986 and confirmed by the 1987 constitution.

    History of the design

    It replaced the black-and-red Duvalier-era flag. The white panel carries a palm, trophy of arms and the motto L’Union fait la Force.
