How to identify it

A yellow diagonal band running from the lower flagpole corner to the upper outer corner, with green above it and red below.

Adoption and legal status

Adopted 15 September 1959 by the autonomous Republic of Congo before independence in 1960; replaced from 1969 to 1991 by a red flag under the Marxist People's Republic of the Congo; re-adopted 10 June 1991 under Article 2 of the constitution after the return to multi-party democracy.

Construction

A diagonal band divided by colour from the lower hoist corner: a green triangle at the hoist and a red triangle at the fly, separated by a yellow diagonal band.

Officially documented meaning

Per the Congolese embassy, yellow represents friendship and the nobility of the Congolese people, green represents agriculture and the country's forests, and red is associated with the blood of the struggle for independence.
