A diagonal split from upper flagpole corner to lower outer corner: a bird of paradise in gold on the red half, five white stars of the Southern Cross on the black half.
Design and construction

- Adopted on 1 July 1971 under the National Identity Act.
History of the design
The design was created by school student Susan Karike. It replaced an administration proposal for a blue, yellow and green vertical tricolour before independence.
