A dark green field with a white crescent and star in the middle and a solid white vertical band next to the flagpole.

- The Constituent Assembly adopted the flag on 11 August 1947, shortly before independence.
History of the design
The white flagpole band occupies one quarter of the length. Government explanations associate it with religious minorities, while the green field represents the Muslim majority.
