    Red, black and green horizontal bands with the black band twice as deep as the others, carrying a white crescent and star in the centre.

    Design and construction

    Adoption and legal status
    The 1951 independence flag was restored by the National Transitional Council in 2011.

    History of the design

    It replaced the plain green flag used from 1977 to 2011 and reconnects the design with the former Kingdom of Libya.
