How to identify it

Two blue bands around a white one carrying a full coat of arms with a triangle, volcanoes and a rainbow.

Design and construction

Adoption and legal status

The federal-style blue-white-blue flag was restored in 1912.

History of the design

Law recognises distinct plain civil, motto-bearing government and arms-bearing state versions, so their proportions and centre details should not be conflated.
