    Design and construction

    Adoption and legal status
The current band proportions were codified by decree in the twentieth century after developing from the Gran Colombia tricolour.

    History of the design

Yellow occupies half the flag’s height, while blue and red each occupy one quarter. The national civil flag carries no coat of arms.
