A yellow field crossed by wide diagonal stripes of white and black from the flagpole side, with a red national emblem in the centre including a crescent, a parasol and two upraised hands.

- The yellow field with diagonal white and black bands has been in use since 1906; the national crest in the centre was added after the Constitution of 29 September 1959.
- Construction
- A yellow field crossed by diagonal white and black bands from the upper hoist corner, with the national crest in red superimposed at the centre.
Officially documented meaning
Per the Brunei government, yellow is the colour of royalty; the crest includes the royal umbrella (payung ubor-ubor), a wing, upraised hands, a crescent and a scroll bearing the state motto, rendered "Always Render Service by God's Guidance."
