How to identify it
Red, white, red in three equal horizontal bands, with nothing on the field. Latvia uses the same pattern in dark crimson with a narrower white band.

History of the design
The colours come from the medieval Babenberg arms. The story of a blood-soaked tunic is a later legend rather than established origin.
