Two designs are in use. The image shown here is the black-red-green tricolour with a white emblem, established under the 2004 Constitution and still used by some Afghan diplomatic missions and at the United Nations. The de facto authorities inside Afghanistan have used a white flag bearing the shahada in black since August 2021. This page describes the displayed tricolour and does not take a position on governance or recognition.
